Following last year`s successful production of Amadeus and The Mikado; LookOut Theatre takes to the stage with the story of one of the truly great men of history -Thomas More - a lawyer, writer, scholar and churchman. The story is about the dilemma of a man of conscience and serves to remind us how rare and valuable such men are in every age, a vital example to all mankind, Thomas More is A Man for All Seasons.
Henry VIII unexpectedly becomes heir to the throne after the death of his brother. The Pope makes a special dispensation to allow Henry to marry his brother`s widow. Unfortunately she fails to produce an heir and as she becomes more religious, Henry seeks the Pope`s approval to nullify the marriage. Henry rejects the Catholic Church and establishes himself as head of the Church of England. Thomas More opposes this action and resigns from his post as Lord Chancellor. Henry passed the Act of Succession which required all who should be called upon to take an oath which acknowledges the issue of Henry and Anne as legitimate heirs to the throne. Thomas refused to take this oath therefore he was sent to the tower of London and at a trial the solicitor general Richard Rich testifies that Thomas More had denied Parliaments power to invest Henry with ecclesiastical powers. More`s denial of the statement and his affirmation that Richard Rich was a perjurer leads him to be convicted and finally beheaded.
The much experienced and extremely talented actor Gerry Hinks plays Thomas More. Gerry has been in numerous plays on stage and has made many appearances on television. He is supported by yet another superb cast list including the promising Steven Rostance as Richard Rich, the delightful William Sandy as Henry VIII. Steve Witney and Richard Perry, both illustrate their aptitude for period drama in what will be yet another hit.
